- Actually, I find Bjarne Stroustrups "The C++ Programming Language, 2nd
- Ed." to be very much equivalent to K&R. In fact, those are the two books I
- keep right next to my computer when I am coding. Both have the advantage
- of being written by the creators of their respective languages, and both
- have the sort of definitive "because we wrote the language that way" air
- about them.

- Now of course, you must understand that STL is not covered in
- Stroustrup[2nd], because it had not been proposed at that time. However,
- barring that, Stroustrup gives a VERY good idea of where the language is,
- and what the likely future in standards is.

- Also, if you are interested in that kind of thing, Stroustrups "The Design
- and Evolution of C++" is an excellent, and quite readable, text.
